Phillips Industries and Phillips Connect CEO Honored by L.A. Times with Visionary Profile

Irvine, CA (July 25, 2022) – Phillips Industries and Phillips Connect CEO, Rob Phillips was nominated and selected to receive a Visionary profile in The C-Suite: Trends, Updates, and CEO & CFO Leadership Awards magazine produced by the L.A. Times. This profile highlights accomplished CEOs from the Greater Los Angeles area who exhibit exceptional visionary leadership in their respective industries.

The Phillips family has been a prominent name in trucking for nearly 100 years. Phillips Industries developed its reputation from producing best-in-class air and electrical components with its durability proven to weather even the toughest conditions. But Phillips Industries was never complacent, identifying gaps in the industry and filling them with new, innovative products. Rob Phillips was taught that if a fleet has a problem, there’s always a solution.

Rob started in the industry at an early age, working in the factory before moving his way through various departments within the company and earning the title of CEO. But as he got more acquainted with the commercial fleets, he began to learn more about one of their biggest pain points: a lack of connectivity.

Prior to Phillips Connect, fleets paid for data from sensor providers and analyzed it across multiple supplier and GPS user interfaces, which was not only monotonous, but difficult to manage. After listening to his customers’ needs, Rob set out to create an integrative technology that would not only collect this data and make it actionable, but would also seamlessly display  on one user interface where fleets could easily monitor their trailer health, analyze data, and take back control of their operation in real time. Early focus was also placed on ensuring all products would be easy and fast to install and extremely durable in harsh trucking conditions.

Under Rob’s leadership, the companies have grown more than 850 percent and now employ nearly 2,000 people in the US, Canada, Mexico, Poland, and Asia. Nearly every semi truck and trailer in North America are equipped with Phillips or Phillips Connect parts, bringing the entire team a sense of accomplishment and pride.

“What an honor it is to be recognized for the work we’re doing!” said Rob Phillips. “The easier path is to get comfortable after big wins, but that’s not who we are, and it doesn’t run in our blood. We’ve created a fast-paced culture that obsesses over solving problems that others don’t have the ability or stamina to solve, and we dig in hard. So much of our success is a direct result of my father, Bob Phillips, who continues to push me to raise the bar higher, never get comfortable in our success, and always surround myself with a team that’s better than I am. Being recognized by the L.A. Times for what we’ve built is incredibly special.”

As Phillips Connect continues to grow, Rob Phillips and his team have a foot on the gas as they push the boundaries of what is possible in trucking telematics. With a testing and engineering laboratory in its Irvine headquarters and a team of the best and brightest minds in the industry, Phillips Connect is just getting started.
